The beat production aspect of our programs is rooted in the therapeutic benefits of non-verbal expression.
The tactile sensory input and creation of repetitive rhythmic patterns involved in beat making have been shown to be highly effective in the regulation of trauma symptoms. This regulation, combined with additional benefits such as increased somatic/body awareness and the healthy expression of challenging emotions, for which the youth might not have vocabulary, allows access to areas of healing not accessible through verbal forms of therapy. The process of cultivating the technical skills of beat making serves to foster a sense of self-esteem and self-confidence. Our model utilizes simplistic dynamics that ensure positive self-esteem development regardless of musical aptitude. Additionally, the collaborative dynamic encourages and enhances skills such as cooperation, negotiation and frustration tolerance. As a whole, this aspect of our programs offers a body oriented, soulfully expressive component which rounds out the therapeutic experience.
